RIP: Maurice Sendak, at 83: Maurice Sendak, the beloved author and illustrator of Where The Wild Things Are, has died after complications from a recent stroke. He was 83.
Sendak won nearly every major book award, including the Caldecott Medal,considered the Pulitzer Prize of children’s book illustration. He had lived with his partner, Eugene Glynn, for 50 years before Glynn’s death in 2007.

RIP: Adam “MCA” Yauch, at 48: Adam “MCA” Yauch, who co-founded pioneering hip-hop group the Beastie Boys with Mike “Mike D” Diamond and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horowitz in 1979, has died. He was 48.
Yauch had been in treatment for cancer since 2009, when doctors discovered a tumor in his salivary gland. In addition to the Beastie Boys, Yauch was heavily involved in the Free Tibet movement and co-organized the Tibetan Freedom Concerts in the ’90s.
